Columbia State Inducts Kira Curtis into Beta Theta Kappa Honor Society

2012 Nov 9

President Janet F. Smith has announced that Kira Curtis of Summertown, TN has been inducted into the Columbia State Beta Theta Kappa Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).

In making the announcement Dr. Smith noted that this induction cycle has included the largest single number of students who have met the qualification guidelines for the honor society in the Chapter's history. "We are delighted to welcome 100 new students into Phi Theta Kappa this year," Smith said.

The Honor Society faculty advisors are Mandy Carter-Lowe, Assistant Professor of Biology and history Instructor, Greg Mewbourn.

Mewbourn noted that the overall participation in PTK now exceeds 300 students. "PTK engages students in community action," Mewbourn said. "Right now students are actively collecting food for area food pantries and have plans to work with young children on a nutrition education project."

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honors society for two-year schools. Columbia State's chapter, Beta Kappa Theta, was charted in 2000 and has since grown to become a Five-Star Chapter! Membership into Phi Theta Kappa is limited to roughly the top 10% of students based on academic achievements.
