Josh Valdes, A Southern Gentleman Abroad

Southern values became a tale of Greek heroics during a study abroad trip for Columbia State Community College student, Josh Valdes during a recent visit to Mystras, Greece. Exemplifying respect and kindness, Valdes provided extraordinary assistance to an elderly woman, unable to descend on her own, by quite literally carrying her down a mountain to safety.

Samford University Fall 2018 Dean's List

Samford University releases dean's lists after the close of the fall and spring semesters each academic year. To qualify for the dean's list, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework. Dean's List is the highest academic recognition given by the school at the end of each semester.

Columbia State Students Complete 10-Week Capstone Course Through Program Partnership With Tractor Supply Company

Columbia State computer science students Shane Sevier and Ethan Pierret recently completed a 10-week capstone course in emerging technologies that started in early October and recently gave a presentation about their experiences. The capstone course allows students to research emerging technologies in the retail industry by exploring areas of study such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things, big data and analytics and other progressive topics in the technology industry. Tractor Supply Company was instrumental in the course development and oversaw the students' day-to-day work experiences. Pierret and Sevier agreed that learning about the day-to-day operations of a large corporation like Tractor Supply has been one of the highlights of the course. Deepa Janakiraman, Columbia State program director and assistant professor of computer information systems, has been involved with the program since its inception in December 2017.

Troy University announces Provost's List for Fall Semester/Term 2

TROY is pleased to announce students who have been named to the Provost's List for the Fall Semester and Term 2 of the 2018/2019 academic year. Full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and who have a grade point average of at least 3.65 qualify for the Provost's List. The Fall Semester includes students at the Troy, Ala., campus. Term 2 includes students at TROY's campuses in Dothan, Phenix City and Montgomery, Ala., along with locations outside of Alabama and online.
